Overview

Forks Over Knives (FOK), a leading voice in the plant-based lifestyle movement, partnered with DYODE to transform their Shopify store into a more content-centric, flexible, and conversion-driven experience. The brand needed a digital storefront that not only supported product sales but also reflected its rich editorial and educational content, bridging the gap between commerce and lifestyle.

The Challenge

Forks Over Knives had a dual-site setup: an editorial content hub on WordPress and a separate Shopify storefront for their product sales. Their goals were to:

  • Redesign the Shopify site to reflect the brand’s vibrant identity.
  • Improve user experience across devices.
  • Enable future migration of content into Shopify.
  • Simplify search functionality to bridge products and WordPress content.
  • Support non-traditional product flows, including offsite redirects.
  • Implement a phased roadmap to eventually consolidate all content and subscriptions under one seamless platform.

DYODE’s Approach

Strategic Discovery & Design

DYODE kicked off the project with collaborative discovery sessions, defining the user journey and identifying areas of opportunity. We designed high-fidelity mockups based, focusing on:

  • Homepage Redesign
  • Landing Pages for:
    • Meal Planner
    • Cooking Course
    • Recipe App
    • Additional pages tailored to marketing initiatives

We ensured that each design respected Forks Over Knives’ existing brand identity while elevating usability and engagement across devices.

Smart Theme Development

Built on Shopify’s Dawn theme, DYODE developed a flexible foundation that could scale as the brand evolved. Key technical highlights included:

  • Custom Blog Search Integration: Imported blog titles, featured images, and URLs into Shopify, allowing the customized Search & Discovery app to link directly to WordPress articles via metafields..
  • Homepage Migration: We worked with the FOK team to align the main site’s homepage on Shopify, preparing for future consolidation with minimal disruption.

Subscription Migration

DYODE led a complex migration of Forks Over Knives’ subscription system from Chargebee to Recharge. This included:

  • Migrating customer data, billing cycles, and product subscriptions via custom scripts.
  • Styling the Recharge widget and configuring key notification flows.

Results

  • A fully responsive, brand-aligned Shopify store launched on time.
  • Enhanced content discovery with a future-ready search solution.
