Modernizing a Leading Plant-Based Brand's Shopify Ecosystem

When ALOHA partnered with DYODE in 2024, the storefront had accumulated years of layered code, retired apps, and aging patterns. The brand was simultaneously rebranding marketing moments, growing subscription revenue, expanding to Canada, modernizing their B2B wholesale site, and preparing for Shopify's shift to checkout extensibility – all without slowing the day-to-day operations of a high-velocity DTC brand.
ALOHA needed a partner who could:
• Audit and modernize an aging Shopify theme carrying significant technical debt • Improve site speed and Core Web Vitals across mobile and desktop • Migrate the storefront to Shopify's checkout extensibility model ahead of platform deadlines • Migrate active subscribers from ReCharge to a new subscription platform without disruption • Bring the entire site into ADA compliance, template by template • Refresh the visual experience to reflect ALOHA's evolving brand • Launch a Canadian storefront with bilingual support via Shopify Markets • Modernize the wholesale (B2B) experience alongside the DTC site • Manage and rationalize a growing third-party app ecosystem

The Results
ALOHA today runs a modern, accessible, performant Shopify ecosystem spanning DTC, Wholesale, and Canada. The platform foundation has been rebuilt for speed and maintainability, the checkout is on Shopify's extensibility model, the subscription experience is fully on Skio, the storefront meets ADA standards across templates, and the brand has the operational headroom to focus on what they do best – making and marketing great plant-based products.
The Brand
ALOHA is a leading plant-based nutrition brand built on a simple promise: clean, organic, plant-powered foods that taste as good as they make you feel. From their organic protein bars to plant-based protein drinks and powders, ALOHA has built a passionate, growing audience of health-conscious customers across DTC, retail, and wholesale channels.
As ALOHA expanded into new product lines, new markets, and new commerce experiences, their Shopify ecosystem needed to keep pace. They needed a long-term partner who could modernize the technical foundation, evolve the customer experience, and quietly run the operational side of an ambitious eCommerce program.
Strategic Discovery & Roadmapping
DYODE kicked off the engagement with a series of audits – a site speed audit, an ADA accessibility audit, a CRO audit, a third-party app review, and a cart optimization recommendation – to ground the partnership in data. From those findings, we built a multi-quarter roadmap that paired quick conversion wins with the foundational modernization work the site needed to scale.
Site Speed & Performance Modernization
Performance was the first priority. DYODE refactored ALOHA's codebase away from jQuery and jQuery extensions, removed unused JavaScript and duplicate snippets, fixed font loading, combined CSS/JS files, and rebuilt slow patterns like parallax, window.fetch, and theme.js. Sliders only initialize when there is more than one slide. Lazy loading was added where it had been missing.
We then ran a dedicated Third-Party Site Speed project to address the cumulative cost of marketing tags and apps, optimizing scripts like Microsoft Clarity, Yieldify, and Rivo so they delivered value without blocking the page.
Subscription Platform Migration
ALOHA's Autoship program is core to retention, so the migration off ReCharge required surgical care. DYODE migrated active subscribers to Skio, removed the legacy ReCharge code and passwordless login, and designed a refreshed Skio login page aligned with ALOHA's brand.
We then layered in subscription UX improvements: showing autoship pricing in the side cart, switching the default selection from autoship to one-time where appropriate, building a homepage Autoship section in place of the old "Our Commitment" block, enabling autoship for back-in-stock product lines, and supporting promotional logic like "30% Off First Autoship Order of $50+."
Site Redesign & UX Enhancements
In parallel with the technical work, DYODE delivered design and development for a wave of UX improvements: a new megamenu, a refreshed homepage, a redesigned collection page (paired with a post-launch A/B test), and reusable section components for product carousels, multi-column content, and category hero banners.
We also rebuilt the PDP, added a sticky add-to-cart, redesigned the customer account and order details pages, refined the side cart, and added merchandising touches like a "Special Edition" product callout and a "Caged" collections page.
Accessibility (ADA) Program
DYODE delivered a phased ADA compliance program across the entire storefront, rolling out fixes template by template: home and mobile menu, product list pages, product detail pages, cart and checkout, account register and sign-in, and inner content pages. The result is a site that meets accessibility expectations end-to-end, not just on the highest-traffic pages.
Canada Expansion
When ALOHA was ready to grow internationally, DYODE stood up a Canadian storefront on Shopify Markets with bilingual support, a Canada-specific header section group, a Canada-specific footer, and ongoing localization updates as the market evolved.
Ongoing Optimization & Operations
Beyond the headline projects, DYODE has been ALOHA's steady operational partner: expanding the rewards activity section, pushing customer tags to global objects for marketing, investigating pricing strikethrough behavior, refining mobile navigation and mobile side-cart UX, supporting data privacy compliance, evaluating CDP options, updating the Climate Neutral certification banner, and even handling the small but real details – like a cart warning for potentially-melting protein bars during summer shipping.

DYODE continues to support ALOHA as a long-term retainer partner, providing design, development, QA, and strategic eCommerce expertise across their Shopify ecosystem.
