The challenge
Fashion Nova is a Los Angeles fast-fashion brand that sells its Women, Curve and Men collections on Shopify Plus. The store ran on a legacy theme and code base, and site speed was one of the company's top priorities for the year.
The brand also had a list of accessibility fixes to work through, and its in-house team had more storefront work than it had developers to ship it.

The approach
DYODE started with a defined accessibility project, then joined Fashion Nova's development process as a dedicated team of developers, project management and QA. Fashion Nova set the priorities. We worked them in two-week sprints, in Fashion Nova's own Jira, with a weekly status review.
The team grew as the backlog did, so the same people who knew the theme kept shipping into it.
Accessibility to WCAG 2.0 AA
We audited the storefront against WCAG 2.0 AA, logging each problem by page with its fix. Then we fixed them: header menus that open from the keyboard, a side cart that moves focus when it opens and closes, missing alt text, banner images that screen readers could not see, and a sale countdown clock with a text alternative.
We rebuilt the add-to-bag size selector on collection pages as an accessible control, made the checkout pop-up and the desktop and mobile navigation accessible, and flagged third-party widgets that needed fixes from their vendors.
Page speed
Speed work ran as its own track. We moved cart rendering into Shopify's storefront render, cut the slider libraries down to one, minified scripts and styles, put the theme on a Webpack build, lazy-loaded the lookbook page.
We also deployed the monitoring beacon for a performance vendor's trial, so Fashion Nova could see where third-party scripts were slowing pages down.
Navigation, cart and checkout
We built Fashion Nova's redesigned desktop mega menu and mobile hamburger navigation, then kept refining them: the menu anchors only when a shopper scrolls up, and notices hide on scroll on phones.
In the side cart we fixed the free-shipping banner, subtotal bugs and cart sync, and let shoppers add items from the Instagram shop modules. International shoppers were sent to Flow's checkout, and we added tracking for guest versus account checkouts.
Email and customer data
We finished Fashion Nova's move from Klaviyo to Sailthru, removing Klaviyo's scripts and app from the live store, and documented every field the site sends to Sailthru from registration and checkout, including which division a shopper browses.
We also tested the abandoned cart, abandoned checkout, pop-up and back-in-stock email flows end to end, and wrote up structured data fixes for product pages.
The results
Fashion Nova added development capacity that worked to its own priorities, sprint after sprint, from a team that already knew its theme.
The store came out with keyboard-operable navigation and cart, one slider library instead of two, a compiled theme build, Sailthru in place of Klaviyo, and international shoppers routed to the right checkout.
