The challenge

Brandless sells everyday essentials under one name: home and cleaning goods, beauty and personal care, wellness, kitchen tools, baby and pet. After the original company closed, a new team brought the brand back and relaunched it on a WooCommerce site.

That site couldn't keep up. Server and site problems were costing Brandless orders, and the instability held back the two things the team needed to grow: sending more email and spending more on marketing. It needed a stable platform before the holidays, not after a long rebuild.

The approach

We planned the move in phases. Phase one was a Shopify Plus store that matched the WooCommerce site's look, feel and checkout closely enough that customers wouldn't notice the platform had changed. Only what the store needed on day one came across: the catalog, inventory and the customers who had ordered.

Everything else, from new features to a redesign, was held for later phases, so none of it could delay the launch.

Live on Shopify Plus

DYODE built the theme, imported the products, set up navigation and the Privy signup popup and footer form, placed test orders and pointed the domain at Shopify. The new store went live ahead of the holidays.

We then brought customers over from WooCommerce. Passwords can't move between platforms, so we added a message to the login page telling returning customers to set up a new account, and recommended Shopify Plus's bulk account invite to reach them by email.

After launch

Brandless kept a dedicated DYODE developer on retainer once the store was live. Customers' store credit balances moved from WooCommerce into Rise.ai on Shopify, and we built a gift card purchase page. We connected Zendesk so the support team could see order status inside it, with a Zendesk contact form on the site.

The work continued from there: a Pet section in the main menu, Google Tag Manager, promotions and app installs. When Brandless chose the theme for its next phase, we helped write the requirements.

The results

Brandless left an unstable WooCommerce site for Shopify Plus ahead of the holidays, with the store looking the way its customers already knew it. Returning customers kept their store credit, and support could answer order questions from Zendesk.

With the platform settled, the team could turn to the growth it had been holding back, and to planning a redesign.
