The challenge
The Detox Market is a clean beauty retailer. It sells skincare, makeup, hair, body and wellness products from many brands, runs its own stores, and makes its own line, Detox Mode. Online it runs two Shopify stores, one for the US and one for Canada.
Its team planned a steady list of store work: a skin quiz, promotions, accessibility, checkout notices and new brand pages. It needed developers who could take that list sprint by sprint and ship each change to both stores.

The approach
DYODE worked as The Detox Market's development team on monthly hours. The brand set the priorities, and we shipped in two-week sprints with planned deploys, bi-weekly calls and a help desk for requests. The hours covered design as well as code.
We also told the team when a build didn't make sense. When it asked for custom buy online, pick up in store, we scoped it and showed it would need a custom private app with its own hosting and order admin, and that Shopify's checkout couldn't support parts of it. The team chose not to build it.
A skin quiz and two stores
We built The Detox Market's skin quiz: the quiz flow, a results page with product recommendations, an email of the results, and a place on the customer account page where signed-in shoppers can go back to their results. Guests see their results once. We then copied the quiz to the Canadian store.
For Canadian shoppers who landed on the US store, we set up a popup that sends them to the Canadian store. We installed Google Tag Manager so the team could track it. We also moved the Canadian theme onto Shopify's Slate tooling and into GitHub.

Promotions, checkout and accessibility
Shopify discount codes couldn't track inventory for gifts with purchase. We set up the Free Gifts app so each gift is a real product with its own stock, adds itself to the cart once a shopper qualifies, and shows on the product pages of the brand running the offer.
At checkout we added a link to the return policy and a notice that large orders need a signature on delivery. We fixed accessibility problems across the store, including color contrast on the Detox Points rewards page and empty links on the careers page, and sent the problems inside third-party apps to their developers.
Ingredients, Detox Mode and speed
We connected both stores to The Good Face Project's API to pull ingredient information onto product pages and into collection filters, matching products by UPC. For Detox Mode we built a product page template the team fills in from the Shopify admin, with a shop section, an animated hero and an ingredient list for each product.
When the stores slowed down, we audited both. We added lazy loading to the homepage, collection, product and about pages, and gave the in-house team a list of every image call that loaded full-size originals so it could fix them.
The results
The Detox Market's US and Canadian stores got a skin quiz with saved results, gifts with purchase that track their own stock, a Canada redirect with tracking, accessibility fixes and clearer checkout notices.
The team can now add Detox Mode product pages without a developer, and it had a development partner that shipped its list to both stores while telling it plainly which projects weren't worth building.
